THE SCHOOLMASTERS’ ASSOCIATION.
The usual monthly meeting of the Schoolmasters’ Association was held this morning in the iower hall of the Athenaeum. In the absence of Mr M'Lauchlan (president), Mr Park took the chair. There were present—Messrs Steward, Milne, M‘Kay, Reid, Montgomery, White, Neish, G. Reid, Sutherland, Kyle, Anderson, and Macandrew. Mr Neish was appointed librarian,-and was instructed to bring np a report at the next monthly meeting ith regard to the books in the hands of the various branch associations, and with respect to other matters in connection with the library. The Secretary was authorised to get one hundred copies of the rules of the Association printed. Mr Macandrew, of GreytoWn, then, in a suggestive paper, urged the importance of moral training in our schools. After defining the scope of moral training, he pointed out the delinquencies of children apparently in the schoolroom, and further showed that these were only to be repressed by the constant vigilance of the teacher.
The essay was very favorably received and commented upon by those present, and the thanks of the Association were conveyed by the chairman to Mr Macandrew. The meeting then adjourned till the first Saturday in September.
