MEETING AT OUTRAM.
A. considerable number of residents in Outram and its vicinity gathered in the drillshed on Saturday evening to take steps for bringing under the notice of the General Government the urgent need ex; ting in that district of a telegraph station and a post office. Mr J. C. Hodges occupied the chair. After considerable discussion, It was resolved that it would be desirable to include, in the same building, accommodation for the Resident Magistrate, as the drill-shed —at present used as a Court-house-is found most unsuitable. It was mentioned that Mr Donald Borrie had offen d a central site for ruch building to the Government on very easy terms.
A committee was appointed to exert themselves to get the wants mentioned supplied as soon as possible. It was also mentioned that the present mail arrangements between Dunedin and the Taieri were very inconvenient, and the committee was instructed to endeavor to get the postal authorities to have two mails daily—after the Clutha line is opened—between the"above places.
