FATAL ACCIDENT AT THE DEBORAH BAY TUNNEL.
An accident, attended with fatal results occurred at the south end of the railway tunnel, Deborah Bay, this morning, to a man named Neilson. Deceased, with a number of other men, was working at the heading of the tunnel, when a heavy fall of rock took place, striking the deceased on the back and side, and causing almost instantaneous death. The only words he was heard to utter were that he was killed. Another man, known as Tiehbourne, who was working alongside the deceased, had a narrow escape, some of the rock falling upon his arm.
As soon as Sergeant Neil was made acquainted with the accident he despatched Constables Nickoll and Mitchell to the scene, and they removed the body to the morgue to await medical examination. An inquest will be held to-morrow before Dr O’Donoghue. We understand that the deceased leaves a widow and one child to mourn his loss.
