Many in Dunedin will remember Chiarini’s ( irons C .mpany, which performed here with so much success between two and three year* ago. a part of which sne-ss was owing to the acrobatic feats of Gonzales. The following intelligence is coutaim d in a letter fram Signor M. Chamberio to the ‘ Star of India,’ published on May 29 last:—“ Lad week a friend of mine told me that he had heard that Signor G. Gomalea had met wi’h a watery grave. The circumstances rcuiting to his death were ns follows: ignor G. Gouza’es aud Miss Theresa Buiz, a lady acrobat, were carrying out certain gymnastic feats on the bridge of the steamer that yaa conveying them ts China, when accidently Miss Theresa Ruiz led her balance aud fell into the Bca. v ivjnor Gouazks, on seeing this, immediately jumped after to rescue her; but both the parties, being .ignorant of swimming, commenced strugglin'.' most desperately to s.rve their lives, but in vdu The steamer whs at the time steaming at a very high rate, and all cfforls on the part of the engineers to stop her engines was in vain, and it wys not until she had run a couple of vnilss fiomthe place where the accident had occurred that she came to a stop.
