Samson took her departure last evening for Oamaru. rhe brig Transport, for Newcastle, was towed to ■ea this morning by the tng Geelong. The N.Z.S.S, Co.’s s.s. Phoebe, with cargo and passengers for the Northern Ports, soiled this afternoon from the railway pier. The Union Company’s splendid new s.s. Hawea, with a large number of passengers, took her departure this afternoon from the railway pier for the Northern Ports.
The Union Company’s s.s. Bruce returned from her trip to Lyttelton and intermediate ports at 8 p.m. yesterday, and steamed alongside the hulk Esk to coal. She left Lyttelton at 5 p.m. on the 16th, and arrived at Akaroa at 10 p.m.; left again at 1 a.m. on the 16th, aud called at Timaru, but owing to the heavy S.E. sea was unable to tranship cargo and continued her course to Dunedin. She experiencod strong S.E, breeze along the coast.
