The ship Wcnnington, having discharged the whole of her cargo, was removed from the new pier and anchored in the stream. The s.s. Beautiful Star was' this morning hauled into the Graving Dock for tho purpose of being cleaned and having her bottom recoated.
It is reported that the directors of the New Zealand Shipping Company are considering tenders from England for the construction of two large steamers, superior in size and power to the Hawea and Tnupo, recently built for the Union Company, Dunedin. If they decide upon the acceptance of the tender, the capital of the company will be increased. The ketch Katlin, with a full cargo of timber from the Bluff, up this morning. She left that port on the 27th inst.; had westerly windsjas far as the Nuggets, which was passed at noon yesterday ; from thence light and variable winds until arriving at the Hoads last night. Captain Hannah reports the following vessels loa'ding at that portEosanna Eose, for Wellington; Queen of the Seas, for Lyttelton ; and Jessie, for Waikouaiti. The Harbor Company’s fine s.s. Bruce returned early this morning from her usual trip to Lyttelton and intermediate ports. She left Lyttelton at 5.15 p.m. on the 23th, and arrived at Akaroa at 10 p.m.; discharged, and took on board twenty tons of cargo, and left for Timaru at midnight; arrived there at 9 a.m. on Iho 28th, discharged and took on board 739 sacks of grain, and loft for Port Chalmers at 7.15 p.m.' The brigantine Camilla, from Hobart Town, was towed up to the anchorage last night by the tug Geelong. She left Hohart Town on the 12th inst., had light and variable winds until making the Solauders on the 20th, from thence calms and light variables, and passed Stewart’s Island on the 25th; arrived at the Heads yesterday afternoon, and was towed up os above. Besides a full cargo of Hobart Town produce, she brings four beagle hounds. The new Union Steamship Company are the owners of six steamers, including the two new j boats, of a total registered tonnage—taking the now boats at 450 tons each—of 1,490 tons. 'lhe N.Z.S.S. Company own six steamers of 1,550 tons, and the Auckland Steam Packet Company own five of 800 tons. Tho tonnage of Messrs M’Meckau and Blackwood’s ileet is a fourth greater than the whole of the above-mentioned companies’ vessels put together.— ‘ Tribune.' I ENGLISH SHIPPING. The New Zealand Shipping Company had despatched the following ships since the date of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency ComB’s circular: —April 13, Collingwood, for Weion, 293 passengers; April 14, Flechero, for Auckland ; April 19, Star of China, for Canterbury, 230 passengers ; May 2, Knight of Snowdonn, for Otago, eighteen passengers. And were to despatch on May '7, Alumhagh, for Auckland; May 18, Tevjotdale, fer Wellington; May 20, British EmPye, for Otago ; May 25, Lactnra, for Canterbury; May 25, Columbus, for Auckland; May 30, Carlsbrooke Castle, for Auckland (from Liverpool); June 10, Border Chief, for Wellington j Jane 10, Waimea, for Otago ; Juno 20, Waikato, for Canterbury. _ The following paragraph is contained in the Shipping Notes of the ‘Western Daily Mercury* (Plymouth) of April 21:—“ With the advancing spring emigrants are commencing to leave England in largo numbers for Australia and Now Zealand. As I stated last week, emigration for some time past has been on the decrease, and this statement is home out by the Superintendent of the Now Zealand Shipping Company in England. This gen- : tleman, and Messrs Weekes and Co., the emigration agents at Plymouth, however, tell me that during the post month the applications for passages have again become numerous. It is satisfactory to know that out of 100 vessels dispatched by the New Zealand Shipping Company not one has met with accident of any kind, but that all have reached their- destination and lauded their immigrants iu safety.” SHIPPING TELEGEAM. Hokitika, juue 28. —The Albion arrived liere today. Sho left Melbourne on the 23rd at ten minutes to five o’clock, and experienced fine weather throughout, making the passage in four days sixteen hours. Passengers for Dunedin—Master Palmer and six steerage.
