PORT CHALMERS TOWN COUNCIL.
The usual fortnightly meeting of the above Council was held on Monday night, when there were present—the Mayor, Cm. Rose, JM'Gregor, Asher, M'Kenzie, Menelaus, Middleditch, Miller, and Dodson.
On the minutes of the previous meeting being read, Cr. Asher would be content with the sense of the language used, and not press for more.— Or. Asher insisted on the words being written as spoken.—Cr. Dodson had no objection to the words used by him being inserted. His actions were honest, and he did not fear their being taken down, but before doing this he would request the Town Clerk to.read his rough minutes taken on the occasion referred to. The Town Clerk having read the rough minutes, Cr. Miller wished to know if Cr. Dodson was at the table when the words were made use ef.— Cr. Asher pointed out that section 23 of the Council’s bye-laws specially referred to similar cases.—His Wor hip called upon Cr, Dodson to apologise for the language used by him.—Cr. Dodson declined doing so ; he would rather be hung up than apologise. Had he insulted his Worship he would at once apologise, but he would not apologise to a thing like Cr. Asher, The minutes oould be filled with what he {{Cr. Dodson) said, and he should not be ashamed of it.—Cr. M'Kenzib moved, Cr, Asher seconded the insertion of the words used, which being carried, the matter dropped. Marks requesting permission to lease a small section at Boiler Point; and from Mr Downes requesting permission to remove earth from the section facing his residence. Granted, subject to the Inspector’s approval—Or Miller in referring to the letter from the Inspector of Works, said he thought the latter had no right to send in such a letter, He had no business to take notice of the nutnher of men employed, or the materials stacked. —('r. Dodson coincided with Cr. Miller.—The Major considered the Inspector was only doing his duty.—Cr. Rose moved, and Cr. M’Kenzie seconded, that the Inspector’s letter be received, which was done.—ln answer to the Major*, Cr, Miller, as a member of the Waterworks Committee, stated that they had not yet visited the works, but would do so, and bring up a report at the next meeting, A tender was received from Mr Peter Findlays™, offering to quarry and break 100 yards of metal, at 5# lOd per yard, which was accepted.
