RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT, PORT CHALMERS.
Tuesday, April 21. (Before T. A. Mansford, Esq., R.M.) Assault. —A youth named Thomas Gardiner, residing at Deborah Bay, was charged with assaulting a little boy about ten years of age, the son of Captain Julier,- From the evidence of the boy and a witness named Charles Hanson, it appeared defendant struck and kicked the child, and then threw his cap away.—His Worship, in giving judgment, stated many complaints had_ been made to him of the conduct of the boys living at Deborah Bay, and he was determined to put a stop to it. Any boy brought before him in future on a similar charge would be committed to the Training Ship at Auckland.—Defendant fined was 5s and costs.— Ong Toy v. Gilchrist, was a charge of assault committed by defendant on Wednesday last. — After hearing the evidence on both sides, his Worship ordered the defendant to pay a fine of 20s and costs.
