Mr Reyn.dds, who is acting for the Minister of Public Works, he demurred to such a charge and having caused inquiries to be made, ascertained that it was more than double the ordinary charge, Similar results have some time since been found, on looking into English agency s payment for insurance, when charges were in no case less than double, and in some treble what merchants were paying for the same class of goods. x>. T m e ® on ;. ‘ Reynolds is a passenger by the Taranaki, which sailed for Auckland this afternoon.

A TX , Wellington, April 19. A difficulty has arisen regarding the Edwin JT°i a immigrants. The Government is afraid to land them here, as the master, matron, and several other inmates of the Immigration Bar racks are sufiering from low fever, caused by defective drainage. It was intended at first to land them at the quarantine station on Soames Island, but it was found that the barraeks on the island have never been fumigated since the iievan s fever-stricken immigrants were there, although the General Government has been repeatedly urged to have it done.
