CITY POLICE COURT.
Monday, April 19. (Before H. Bastings and E. ff. Ward, Esqs.. J.P.’s.) H Drunkeness.—John Leeson was fined 20s, or, in default, three days’ imprisonment; Alice Ruth, being a witness in a case at the Supreme Court, was discharged with a strong caution. Sly Groo Selling. —An application was made, on behalf of Mr Hams, who, it was explained, had been unexpectedly called out of town, that charges of sly grog selling preferred against Benjamin Perry and Samuel Crofts be adjourned till to-morrow,—lnspector Mallard opposed the application on public grounds. He had no objection to the case being adjourned for an hour or so, to enable the defendants to obtain legal advice, but, in his opinion, to adjourn them till to-morrow would defeat the ends of justice.—Mr Ward: Perhaps the difficulty you will be put to is in looking up your witnesses.—lnspector Mallard did not think it advisable to say more than that it was solely on public grounds that he opposed the application for adjournment.—The Bench decided to adjourn the case till next day.
Neighbors’ Quarrels.- Matilda Dick v. Margaret Moffatt, and Moffatt v. Dick, assault cases, were both dismissed.
