xr ~ . , WELLINGTON, April 19. ihe New Zealand census for 1874 is just out of the hands of the Registrar-General. The population of the Colony, on the Ist March, 1875, was 299,514, of whom 4,816 were Chinese. foo e^o aleß nT im^ ered 170 > 981 . an d the females J 4o,oo'}. The Provincial returns are: Auckland, 67,451 ; Taranaki, 5,466 ; Wellington, 29,790 ; Hawkes Bay, 9,228 ; Marlborough, G. 145 ; Nelson, 22,558 : Weat85,Hd. ihe population of the chief tovms is—Auckland (without suburbs) 12,755with the suburbs of Parnell and Newton’ 21,590 j Wai ngton, 10,547; Napier, 3,514; New Plymouth, 2,044; Wanganui, 1,1343.352 ; Greymiuth, 2,551; Chnstcl.arch, without suburbs, 10,294: including suburbs, 16,959; Lyttelton, 2,974 limaru, 1 969 ; Dunedin, 18,499; Port Chal“g* 2? B3 ; 5 5 Invercargill, 2,479; Oamaru. 2,819; the town of Thames, 8.073.
