A NARROW ESCAPE.

A very narrow escape from a serious accident occurred this afternoon on the Port Chalmers railway. It appears that upon the 2.30 train from Dunedin turning the curve on the Port Chalmers side of Wales’s quarry, a man and woman were seen sitting on the rails, indulging themselves with a bottle of rum. Before the train could be stopped, the platform of the first carriage caught the man on the shoulder, and fortunately threw him on the right side the rails, or he would have received severe injury, if not have met his death. As soon as possible the train was stopped, and the man and woman were put into a carriage and conveyed to the Port, where they were given into the charge of the police.
