Wellington, March 31. Mr A, S. Reed, formerly assistant-law officer, has been appointed Solicitor-General (or the Colony. A good deal of Bill-drafting for next session is being done outside of the Government Offices. There have been several cases fever recently which have resulted fatally. . , , Christchurch, April 1. The Clydesdale colt imported by Mr Walls yesterday cost L 750, and one mare L 350, in Scotland. Mr Walls was offered L 1,200 for the former in Melbourne. A , Auckland, March 31. accident occurred at Whitaker’s Bosh, Wakarau. on Saturday last. A bushman named John Robinson was engaged with two others in felling a kauri tree, when it suddenly fell man opposite direction to that anticipated, crushing the deceased. Death was almost instantaneous. One of Robinson’s mates, Isaao Currie, also had a narrow escape as he and deceased the same direction • but Ume, looking up, saw the tree falling on them, and ran tbe opposite way, thus escaping. The deceased was formerly in the 66th Regiment. 6
