Fanny Blair was leading the first time past the stand, out the Ada gelding took first place at the three-quarter mile post and kept the lead to the finish. Time, 3min H^sec. Taibbi District Plate, 20 sovs. One mile and a-half. Weight for age. Open only to horses the property of residents within the Electoral District of the Taieri, and being their bona fide property for two months previous to'the day of running. Miss Alfred, Brt Ulb... ' (A. Gibbs) 1 Verbena Bst 111b (J. Cotton 2 . Miss Alfred went off with;the lead and kept it, winning by four lengths. Time, 3min ISaeo. Handicap Tbottino Race of 15 sovs-three miles. Violet, 300 yds (Peters) 1 Caleb, scratch (Mackayj 2 Dick, scratch (Kitcbenmai) 3 Fanny Blair, 300 yds (Nunn) 0 Betting—Level against Dick and Violet ; 2 to 1 Caleb; 6to 1 Fanny Blair. Violet had gained 100 yards the first Ume round, and came m an easy winner, the rest being nowhere. The grounds were fairly attended and the weather was fine, but your reporter's creden tials were not recognised by either Mr Dunning at the gates, or Mr Purvis at the saddling paddock. Mr Dey kindly gave a ticket for the grand stand. THE HOKITIKA RACES. [By Telegraph.] (Per Press Agency.) On the second day, for the Hokitika Racing Club Handicap, of 100 sovs. Two started • Guv Fawkes, 7st 71b; Yatterina, Bst, It was a splendid race throughout, Yatterina winning by two lengths. The betting was even. Hurdle Handicap, of 60 sovs. Two started; Tommy Dodd and Magenta. Tommy Dodd took the lead, winning easily. The betting was two to one on Tommy Dodo. ° For the Stewards’’ Handicap of 50bov B , Guy Fawkes and Yatterina were again the only competitors. It was a splendid race throughout and very fast, Yatterina winning. The betting was even at starting.
