NATIONAL INSURANCE COMPANY.

To the Editor. . Sir,—l have seen in your paper of the 23rd mat. a telegram from your correspondent here referring to the inquiry into a fire, in which your correspondent does me a great injustice. I should have preferred to treat your article the same way as the one which appeared last week in the ‘Wakatipu Mail,’ that is, with contempt. I can do it with our local paper, as I know that these articles can do me no harm in the opinion of my fellowcitizens, by whom I am too well known and respected, but it is another matter with your paper, which being much read, and by many who do not know me, might easily do me harm in my position as commission agent. I am quite satisfied that the directors of the National Insurance Company are satisfied with my whole action in taking L 325, and not L4OO, on the good and substantial building known as Frankton Dairy Hotel ; but In my position as commission agent I cannot allow that the public form a wrong opinien as to my character, and for this reason I should feel obliged if you would kindly insert this letter in your next issue, by which I give an entire denial to the statement of your correspondent referring to me,—l am, &c,, William Geisow, * Agent of the National Insurance Co. Queenstown, March 4»
