THE INTERPROVINCIAL CRICKET MATCH.

OTAGO. The Match Committee met on the Oval yesterday afternoon, and selected finally the 'tago representative team as follows ; lien, CollinwD, Downes, J. C. Fulton, Glon, odby, Lambert, Para nor, D. K. Rhodes, Sampson, and L'ait. We now offer a few remarks on each, taking tnem in the order as given above.

Allen will, no doubt, take the wickets, a post which, we feel assured, he will fill creditably. As a bat we do not expect much from him, although he may, with luck, obtain a double figure. Collinson is not what he was five years ago, the accident to his knee having largely interfered with his play. He is, however, a steady bat, and good for some runs. Should he take the^wickets, Allen will probably go to his old position at point, Godby taking mid-off. Downes will probably captain the team, and, if in bowling for ", is bound to get wickets. He, like Allen, is as a batsman more lucky than correct.

_ J. G. Fulton is a good bowler, having considerable head work. He is an energetic field, and has a good style of batting, with lots of hit; but is somewhat Unfortunate. Glen, as a bowler, ranks next to Downes. His pace is pretty hot, and his average would show up well were he to use his head more ; is a smart field at slip, but no bat, Godby has been singularly’unlucky in our practice matches this season. He is undoubtedly a fine bat, but lacks patience; fields well at P«int, covering lots of ground ; and is a fair change bowler, with a puzzling break from leg. Lambert will fill the important post of longstop, and will let no byes. He hits hard to the on. but is wanting in defence and very apt to get Lb.w. We expect great doings from Paramor, although we fear his bowling will' not tell so well on Hagley Park as on Kensington Oval Still we know he is good for a score. D. K. Rhodes is a medium bat, hitting hard, but high; played a good innings of twenty-one, not out,’ against Invercargill; fields fairly at long leg and cover point. From Sampson we anticipate a score. He combines strong defence with considerable bitting powers. He is also a safe and active field, with a smart return. ‘

. Tait is a fair change bowler, straight, bns simple. Sis batting capabilities are not great« is a moderate field. '

'I he above represent a strong bowling arid fielding team. Batting is certainly the weak point, bat that, too, is strong compared to what it has been of late years. It is to be regretted that business prevents both Kpadp aud Kettle from getting away, as ate good all round. The Utago men go North by the Taranaki on Monday next, and the match will be played on the 28th and 29th. F
