VOLUNTEER INTELLIGENCE.

Major Atkinson held his inspection of the North Dunedin Rifles last night. There were present, Captain Copeland, Lieuts. Pell and Pollock, a sergeant, and 22 privates. After the usual inspection of arms, and the Company had been put through several movements by the Adjutant, Lieut. Pell put them through the manual, And Lieut. Pollock through the firing exercise. Captain Copeland then took command, and put his men through company drill for an hour. # A rifle match was fired this morning between eight of the Otago representatives who take part in the intercolonial firing, and a similar number of No. 1 Company, Major Atkinson being in charge. The conditions were ranges 200. 400, 500, and 600 yards, five shots at each. It will be seen that the representatives won by 40 points.
