THE HARBOR BOARD.
To the Editor, Sir,—ln your report of the meeting held by the Harbor Board, I eee that Mr Proudfoot ig not allowed to run the race alone, as there appears to hare been an offer made by the Messrs Brogden also for our harbour improvements Very liberal of these gentlemen truly. As to making surveys, getting up drawings, elaborate reports, Ac., &c., I have no doubt but that many gentlemen can be found in Otago itself who would be quite able and ready to do all that is necessary if the Board will just pay the cost, a trifle to be afterward* agreed on. The Board appear to be very anxious to proceed. Well and good. Put it in the market; ask for competition; this will entail some considerable time for execution. Bro ready, the Board, if desirous, may be in possession of their own engineer, who will then in his capacity be able to adopt either, or refuse all submissions. Ten to one whoever the coming man may bo, any proposal but his own would be rejected. Hence the folly of incurr ng preliminary expenses I am, &c., Dunedin, October 7. Fairplay.
