THE SYNOD.
To the Editor. The Diocesan Synod now sitting would do well to determine what is to be the teaching of the Church as regards the Fourth Commandment It is well known that one of the clergy has publicly stated his belief that the said conajnandmeiit is abrogated. I would beg to point out the fact that in all times, past and present, the ignoring of the sacred character*of a Sabbath day —one day in seven set apart for man’s highest and noblest culture—is productive of the greatest social and moral evils The foundation of rebellion against good government is in the public repudiation of the sacredness of the Sabbath. For revolutionary purposes, in the worst phrase, men and women, without mind and principles formed and disciplined by Sabbath observances, are the most ready and fitting instruments. New that the Church is establishing ** denominational schools,” it is essential thst the Synod should be outspoken on the character of the religious instruction, more espedaily with reference to the Fourth Com mandment,—l am, &0., t.
