Sir, —Coaid you inform your numerous Volunteer readers what has became of the above shield, which was subscribed for by the ladies of Dunedin, to be Shot for by the Otago Volunteers ’ By answering the above ftt youjr earliest convenience, you will much oblige One Who Gave her Mite. Dunedin, September 23. [We are officially informed that on February 20, 1873, the shield was, at the request of # Major Bathgate (then a member of the Ministry), forwarded by Celonel Cargill to Lieut.-Colonel Moule, at Wellington, for sale tb shp Geperal Government. This was done, as the subscriptions raised did not exceed one-half the original cost of the shield, and all accounts and documents in connection with the matter were sent with it.
