Mr Skene reports that the present rates are : —Ploughmen, L6O to 65; if married, and wife to help in house work, L 75, LBO, and LBS. Shepherds at L6O to L 65, if married, and with charge, same as arable farm people. Servant girls : Good general, from L 36 to L4O for private houses ; if good hotel hands, from L4O to L 52 i cooks, 20s to 30s per week j nurse girls get from 6s to 9s per week. The building trade is almost at a standstill through the weather. Indoor trades are busy. Day laborers are making poor times just now.
