Wellington. November 18. Preliminary arrangements are being made to establish an Insurance Company ben, with LlO shares. The range for the > olonial prize-firing has been selected at Oieen Meadow, about three miles from Napnr, by the new Taradale road. The complete returns of the Superintendcncy election give Mr Wi liamson a majority of 401. The official declaration will be made ou Thursday. The Provincial elections are passing off very quietly. At the Eden nomination, no second candidate offering, Mr William Ruckland, who was riding along the. road at the lime, consented to stand, and was elected unopposed. The other districts mostly promise a contest. CiirisTi HUKCii, November 18. The Governor visited Kaiapoi and Rangiora this morning. At the Resident Magistrate’s Court to-day the captain of the ship Punjaub was charged with supplying impure water and improperly cooked meat to the immigrants dining the voyage ; also with not having a proper quantity of medical con Ports on board. He was fined L 5 each in two cases of improperly cooked food. The two charges of impure water and insufficient medical comforts wore dismissed. Hokitika, November 19. The Tararua arrived this morning. She left Melbourne at 5 a.in on the 14th, and was tendered at 12.30. She brinks 21 saloon, 89 steerage passengers, and a full cargo for all ports She sailed North at 12.45 p.m. LATEST CABLEGRAMS. London', November 10. At the Lord Mayoi’s banquest last night Mr Gladstone alluded to the Ashantee difficulty. The frienilly chiefs are supporting Major General Wolsely against the Ashautecs. Some rioting occurred amongst the Orangemen of Dublin on the 6th. (Numerous railway accidents, some serious, have occurred on several linos. France. The Orleanist Princes dot-lined to accept the Lieutenancy of the Kingdom, and the Monarchists now propose a prolongation of M‘Mahon’s powers as President. The National Assembly met at Versailles. The Prcsi lent’s message declares that increased authority for durability of govern moot ii essential to the safety of the country, M. Buffet was re-elected President. In the Assembly eight of tho committee of fifteen opposed the extension of M‘Mahon's powers. This caused a great sensation, and on the Ilth November the Ministry of the Due de Broglie resigned. M‘Mahon refused to accept their resignation. Spain. A great victory has been gained in Navarre over the Republican troops. A further telegram says that the result was indecisive.
