Melbourne, November 13. New South Wales won the Intercolonial Rifle Match, beating Victoria by 65 points and Now Zealand by 103. The highest scorers for Now Zealand were Small and Christie, 85 each ; for Victoria, Whalley 89, Hannay 88 ; and for Sydney, Freeman 91, Lamb 90. The shooting was, generally, indifferent. The New Zealand men found totally different local conditions to what they had been accustomed ,at the range. The total scores were—Sydney, 1,58 J; Victoria, 1,521 ; New Zealand, 1,483. Don Juan won the Cup in the quickest time recorded and by five lengths. The Arrow was fourth, and Lothair fifth. A protest entered against Romney (?) was dismissed. Fifty thousand were on the course on the Cup day. The bookmakers won largely. Joe Thomson, the bookmaker, has bought the Don for L2,U00. Thomson himself won L 12,000.
