RELIGIOUS INSTRUCTION IN SCHOOLS.
To the Editor. Sir,— ln a notice of the Evangelist for October, which appears in last Saturday’s Star, I find the followingTo waste time and intellect on so idle a theme (apostolical succession) when ministers profess they cannot give an hour drily to teaching children fundamental truth, looks very much like trifling with the trust they have undertaken. ”
I do not know who the ministers are to whom allusion is made. Certainly they are not ministers of the Church of England, Our complaint is this—that we are not permitted to give an hour daily to teaching children fundamental truth in the Government schools. To talk of giving religious instruction daily to children before or after school hours is simply absurd.—l am, &c.,
E. G. Edwards.
