NEWSPAPERS FOR PUBLIC INSTITUTIONS.
To the Editor. Sir,—Be good enough to state, for general information, whether newspapers and periodicals are solicited by the Government for the charitable institutions? and whether same can be posted now minus the usual stamps ? Such a practice was current some time ago for a brief period ; but being productive of good results, the overwhelming wisdom of our rulers prompted them to annuljthe liberty then afforded.—l am, &c,, Ita Est. Dunedin, October 7. [Any paper addressed to an hospital or atherußum will be delivered free of postage ; but the Department have had occasion to detain papers because they have been addressed to officers, and not to the Institution itself. — Ed. E.S.]
