WASTE LAND BOARD.
The usual weekly meeting of the Board was held yesterday. Pr. sent—The Chief Commissioner, and Messrs Buttenvorth, Clarke, and Reid, Messrs Gillies and Street, for Mr J. E. Black, asked that his application for a site for a flour mill and spade manufactory be reheard j and Mr R. Patersou, for Mr Jas. Bollock, opposed the application, urging a prior claim to the site, as granted on Nov. 24, 1869. Mr Pollock represented a com pany being formed among residents in the district to erect a mill. The Board decided that, seeing that Mr Pollock had admitted his inability to erect a mill, and had not stirred in the matter for three years, his permission be withdrawn, and there being two applicants for the site, the Government be recommended to survey a site, with the view of submitting it to public competition.
The Board, recommended the Government lo withdraw blocks in Tuapoka West of 2,600 and 2,400 acres from application till a survey is completed ; or, at all events, till a day has been duly notified to the publie on which applications may be received. Mr John Hurley applied to purchase section 11, block 1, Cromwell, with plans lor approval. To be sold as land of special value under clause 85 of the Waste Lauda Act, 1872, at Ll2 per acre.
Mr John Deem applied to have a deposit of about three acres of peat at Macraes vested in trustees for the use of the people of that town alone. To be reserved in new survey. Messrs Clunie and Genge applied for a license to occupy half an acre of the quarry reserve in block 3, Uamaru, for a store and bakery. Declmed. Hanger Hnghan reported on the application of Mr John Herbert for a license to occupy section 5, block 5, Green vale, for planting trees, and recommended granting the request. Declined, and referred to the Government regulations for tree-plan' ing. The report of the District Land Officer on the application of Messrs H. 8, and E. A. Chapman to purchase their homestead, run No. 222, was approved.
Letters were read from Messrs Martin and Co., and Mr Osborne, auctioneers, of Invercargill, relative to the appointment of an auctioneer for the Invercargill district.
Mr Chappie suggested tbat some suburban sections should be laid off for sale iu Alexandra. Referred for advice to District Land Officer.
The valuation of improvements made on Hill’s Creek township was approved ; as also was the report of the Warden on the compensation to be paid Messrs Duff, Turner, and Inden for cancellation of their tenure of part of the town as surveyed, the sections to be put up at usual rates. Mr James Cooper applied to exchange his lease of sections 10, 18, 14, and 38, block 20, and 11 and 31, block 19, Shotover. The Warden recommended that the sections be inspected, with a view to seeing what roads are required to be taken prior to an exchange. Sections to be inspected.
