WASTE LAND BOARD.
Tho usual weekly meeting of the Board was held to-day. Present—The Chief Commissioner, .and Messrs Bastings, Butter worth, and Clark. !
Mr George Fleet applied for a grazing lease of bush reserve, section 45, block 4, Otakia. Granted, on the same terms as Mr Allan's, with L 5 deposit. Mr Dalrymple, jun., for Mr G. A. Smith, applied for a license for a limestone quarry of five acres at the junction of Gorge Greek and the main road, in the Cairnhill district. Applicant to obtain rnnholder’s,consent. The Commissioner of Police reported the indiscriminate destruction of the forests in the Wakatiph district, and that the police have not time to look up unlicensed wood cutters. The Board recommended, to Government the redistribution of districts, with a view to looking after the forests. To be sold by public auction ; upset price, LG. Cost of survey to be paid by purchaser in addition. The Private Petitions Committee recommended that a grant should be made to Mr Richard M‘Kay of a lease of five acres of land of the Tspanui commonage for a fellmongery, which was agreed to by the Government. The Board had no power. The license to be conferred under clause 161 of the Waste Land Act of 1872; fee, LI per annum.
Ranger Hughan reported on the application of Mr John Ross to purchase bush reserve, section —, block 2, Warepa, recommending its sale by ajiotipn. 'To be sold as land of special value, at an upset price of 2is ppr acre. . f ;• Applications from Mr Richard Howarth for, the exchange of agricultural leases of sections 25, 26, 2*7, 28, 29, 7, 8, 9, and 6, block 1, South Wakatip; and from Mr John White, of section £9, block 1, Tiger Hill, were approved. > Mr John E. Black applied for a lease, or otherwise; of an acre or more of land at Mataura Bridge for a flour mill and spade manufactory. Declined. Mr Wheeler, for Messrs J. and J. Tamblyn, applied for section 35 and 36, block 2, Benger ; and, for Mr James Tamblyn, for section 37, block 2, Benger. Application to be advertised in the Tuapeka paper, to learn if there are any objections.
