Thursday, September 18. (Before His Worship the Mayor' and' J. 1 Brown, Esq., J.P.)
Drunkenness.—Charles Butt was fined 10a, with,the option of forty-eight hours* imprisonment, Vagrancy.— Abigail McDonald and Isabella Harrison were charged with having ho lawful'visible means of support.—Both girls pleaded guilty, but said they wished to take situations. His Worahip J said it was a great pity to see. so many young girls, like the prisoners, going" about the town in the they difh, Excellent situations might be got, if they only wished t° take them, and it Was very well for ' them t6 say they would take places bow they were brought up. The Bench would only be too glad to let them off if they promised £o go to the Refuge, and stop there for a short time till they reformed. The prisoners baying expressed their willingness to go there, the Bench said that they hoped they would not again be Wbught up, for if they were they, would be dealt with very severely. Harrison wished to know if they would be escorted by a policeman, hut the Bencfr told them they might go down to |th?. .Refuge themselves and they would be admitted. . "! .• ■
