WASTE LAND BOARD.
A meeting of the Board was hel l this day. There were present Messrs Strode (in the chair), Tolmie, Butterworth, and Clark. The report of Mr Valpy, the district ranger,, on sections 1 to 37, block 2, Clarendon district, relative to the application of A'r John M‘Nichol to have those sections put up to auction, was considered. The application of Mr Fraser to have the entire block submitted to public auction at the upset price of 10s per acre was also considered. The former application was declined, but the latter was granted. Mr i'liotl, on behalf of Colonel Kitchener, applied to have the village reserve, section 30, Dunb.ick district, pub up for sale as rural land. The consideration of the application was adjourned for a fortnight. The application of Mr Held, on behalf of Mr James Marshall, for the sale of sections II and 12. block 15, Mauugatua district, was considered, together with the ranger’s report thereon. The report showed that the settlers in the locality wore in a great mea sure depending on the bush on sections 11,12, and 16 for firewood, 'i he ranger stated that he would again visit the locality to ascertain the objections, if any, the settlers had to the sale of the land. It was therefore resolved to adjourn the further consideration of the application for a week. Mr J. K. Kemp applied to have sections 53 to 56, block 1, Cairn Hill district, put up for sale. The application, so far as sections 55 and 56 were concerned, was granted The other sections were withheld. The application of Mr Duncan Gillanders fora lease of 20,000 acres pastoral land north of the Monowai Lake, on the Hunter Mountains, was considered. It was shown that the application referred to new count? y. It was resolved that the country be assessed, and that the lease be put up to auction in the usual way. Messrs Hector, Fraser, and John M’Leau app’ied for a pastoral lease of 5,0U0 acres of country west of the Hunter Mountains, and discovered by the applicants in January, 1872. It was resolved that the country be assesed, and that the lease be submitted to public auction. Mr James Keppel applied for permission to purchase sections 2 and 3, block 6, at Tuapeka, West; and Mr Thomas Morrison also applied for pe? mission to purchase section 5, block 21, Shotover district. The report of Mr Warden Fyke regarding these sections showed that, though they wers in a goldfields district, they were not known to be payably auriferous, and that the sale of them would not be injurious to the public interest. Both applications were granted.
