Another death occurred on the Quarantine Island this morning, the deceased being a child between two and three years old, who was suffering from bronchitis when it left the ship. This morning it took convulsions and died. A bailiff of the Supreme Court, named Smith, while on his way to Uraua, breakfasted at an hotel there, and while eating a grilled fowl, the portion of it known as the “wishing bone,” lodged in his throat, and defied all efforts at removal. He gargled his throat, but without success. He then rode on to Jerilderie, sixteen miles further, where he was attended by Dr, Shrapnell, unfortunately without success. Deceased did not consider his condition so serious, but apparently looked forward to complete his journey. Two days afterwards, ho began to bleed copiously, sank rapidly, and died about 6 p.m., having bled to death. A post-mortem examination was made by Dr. Shrapnell, and on opening deceased’s neck, the fragment qf bone, wlpch was about I|in long, and very sharp at one end, was found to be lodged transversely in the throat, the sharp end penetrating the jugular vein, and thus causing death.
