PARLIAMENT.

(from our own correspondent.) Wellington, October 11. Upon the motion for going into Comini tte* of Ways and Means last night, Mr Stafford made the long expected Opposition speech, which was a perfect failure. He concluded without moving any resolution. He found fault with everything, and suggested nothing. Mr Vogel, in answering him, twitted him with iuc nsistency and maladministraviou, especially in his conduct of Native affairs. He said his Government never did anything useful. Mr Gillies spoke bitterly, but to little effect. The debate collapsed. The House afterwards went into Committee. The consideration of the stamp

duties was postponed. The Agricultural Lien Bill and the Jury Bill passed the House, Murray withdraw his resolutions re the Clutha River Trust. The Dunedin Borrowing Bill was committed. Mr Gillies carried the insertion of a clause debarring debenture holders from having a claim upon the Provincial or General revenue. The Education Bill has been withdrawn, and it is probable that the Goldfields Bill will also be withdrawn. A majority of the Legislative Council has determined to santion no change in the land laws.
