WASTE LAND BOARD.

A t to-day’s meeting of the Board there were present—the Chief Commissioner, and Messrs Duncan and Hughes. The following business was transacted : Mr E. Smith applied to purchase, for Church purposes, section 7, block 4, Ettrick. The applicant was recommended to apply for a section not on the main road. Messrs Herbert and Co. did not appear to support their application for a reduction of the license of the Victoria Saw Mill, and the Crown Commissioner was ordered to take legal proceedings if the fee was not paid. The application of J. D. Walker for a lease of two acres at Queenstown for a soap manufactory, was declined. The request of C. Richards, Tuapeka Mouth,jfor time to pay a bush licence, was refused—the Crown Commissioner being ordered to take proceedings for its recovery forthwith. Daniel Hunter’s application to purchase

under agricultural license section 190, block 2, Tuapeka East, was granted ; while that to purchase section 10, block 2, was declined. Mr Morrison applied to purchase 14 acres near Switzers for the purposes of a Presbyterian church. Lind ordered to be sold by auction as of special value, at an upset price of L 5 per acre, improvements to be added. Thos. Pointer’s application for a license to occupy lands at Blues in or Waikouaiti spit for fishery purposes, was declined. J. Manning’s application for a lease of sections 7 and 8, block 2, Kaitangata, for a saw mill, was deferred, pending information as to the site. In reference to the question of the officer in charge at Martin’s Bay, as to the moaning of the residence clauses, it was minuted that living in the district complied with the regulations. With reference to the application to purchase land St Bathaus for a Roman Catholic Church, the land was ordered to be sold by auction as land of special value, at an upset price of L 5 per acre ; improvements added.
