Judgment by default for the plaiutMF, with costa. Russell v, George Roberts—L4 7s. Judgment by default for the plaintiff for the amount. Russell v. Woodman—Ls 2s 3d. The debt was admitted, and judgment was given by consent for the amount. Davis v. Thos. Duncan—L2 Is Id, for meat supplied. Judgment by default for the amount, Armstrong v. Ries—A claim for L2, for one weeks’ wages. Verdict for the plaintiff LI and costs. Lyons v. Levy.—Llo for the balance of money lent. Mr Ward for the defendant. In evidmce by the plaintiff he said that at the bar of the Empire Hotel he met the defendant one evening, who asked the loan of some money. Having Ll2 in his possession he lent him LIO. The plaintiff, the defendant, and lothers went up-stairs into a private room, where they played cards, and the defendant lost the LiO. Defendant and another then began to play cribbage for L 5 a game, and Levy losing, borrowed two separate L 5, which the i laintiff , borrowed from one of the party to lend him. There being no cribbage board, the plaintiff acted as marker and referee. Eor the defence it was urged that the money was lent for an illegal purpose and conspiracy. A witness named Aafons proved the loan of the money. In reply to the plaintiff the defendant ac. knowdedged be had on previous occasions refused to repay money borrowed on similar grounds. The reason he refused to repay the money was that the plaintiff w r as interested in the game. Judgment reserved to Wednesday. Several cases were struck out for nonappearance of the parties.
