[from our own correspondent.] Greymocth, April 22. The inquest on the late tire is now being held. Auckland, April 15. The Defen e Minister has returned from Tauranga with 20 kegs of powder, which were taken from Te Kooti at Waima. Dr Hector is engaged in establishing a branch laboratory at the Thames. April 17. News from Poverty Bay states that the Mohanga survey is being proceeded with. Ropata has divided Ins force and is following Te Kooti. A report has been circulated that Te Kooti has obtained protection from the King. It is not continued. The re port that Te Hira was paid LSOOO by the Government to leave Oinemuri is untrue. There is every prospect of the field being opened shortly. April 19. The Governor and Native Minister left for the Bay of Islands in the p.s. Luna on a few days visit. Lieut, -Colonel Lyon takes command in the Waikato, and Lieut.-Colonel Harrington in Auckland. A religious paper called the Christian Times is announced. Te Kooti’s baud have surrendered at Opotiki. They report him to be concealed in the Waikato Gorge. An expedition to the place indicated was to leave Opotiki on Monday. The Thames Mining Board met for the last time on Monday, April 20. Mr M'Keuzle has entered into a contract for the construction of a telegraph between Tauranga and Taupo, to be completed within three months. A faaewell service was given to the Rev. D. Bruce last evening when LIOO were presented to him. He leaves for London per the Annie Main on a twelvemonth’s visit. A man named William Hammond died suddenly yesterday, and at the inquest a verdict of death from excessive drinking was returned. Lieut.-Colonel Moule takes charge at Tauranga. A farewell dinner was given to him at Hamilton, and a gold watch, chain, and locket, were presented to him by the men of the Armed Constabulary. Nelson, April 22.
