DR. E. N. MERRINGTON
The congregation of the Seatoun Presbyterian Church is to send a call to the Rev. Dr. E. N. Merrington, M.A., Ph.D.. who is at present supplying at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, The Terrace.
The Rev. Dr. Merrington is a distinguished figure in the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand. He was born at Newcastle, New South Wales, in 1876, and received his education at. the Universities of Sydney, Edinburgh, and Harvard. He lectured in philosophy at the University of Sydney from 1907 to 1909, and Avas minister of St. Andrew's, Brisbane, from 1910 to 1923. For some years he was on the senate of the University of Queensland, and was first chairman of Emmanuel College, Brisbane, and lecturer in Christian Philosophy. From 1911 to 1923 he was senior chaplain of the Ist Military District, Australia, coming to New Zealand as minister of First Church, Dunedin, in the latter year. Until 1928 the Rev. Dr. Merrington remained at First Church, and for several years was examiner in philosophy of the University of New Zealand. He was a master at Knox College from 1929 until last year. During the Great War he saw service from 1914 to 1919 as a chaplain, serving in Egypt, Gallipoli, England, and France.
The Rev. Dr. Merrington, who was married in 1903, has one son and two daughters.
The former minister of the Seatoun Presbyterian Church was the Rev. D. C. Dowling.
