RECEIVING CHARGE

A sentence of six months' imprisonment with hard labour was imposed upon Frederick Jones, a cook, aged 58, who appeared before Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court today and pleaded guilty to receiving 15 gold signet rings valued at £33 15s, knowing them to have been dishonestly obtained. Detective-Sergeant W. McLennan, prosecuting, said that in September last a jeweller's shop in Greymouth was broken into and jewellery valued at £255 was stolen. The accused was later arrested when he tried to dispose of 15 of the rings, which had been broken up.

The accused was arrested by Detective G. Hogan.
