MR. W. C. F. RICHARDSON

The death occurred at Palmerston North on Sunday of Mr. William Cecil Ferdinand Richardson, in his seventyninth year. The eldest son of the late Mr. William Burgess Richardson and Mrs. Fanny Eliza Richardson, Wellington, he was the eldest grandson of the late Mr. John Plimmer, "the father of Wellington," his mother being the eldest Miss Plimmer.

Mr. Richardson was for many years well known on coastal ships round New Zealand, being superintendent engineer for the late Mr. C. Seagar's fleet. He was also well known in marine engineering circles and was a past president of the Amalgamated Society of Marine Engineers. He was also one of the pioneering engineers of the freezing industry at Wellington. At the time of the Russian "scare" in the eighties, Mr. Richardson, on behalf of the Government, directed the erection of searchlights at various points and was also in the torpedo service.

Mr. Richardson leaves a widow, who is a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Allan, Dunedin; one son, Mr. C. Stuart Richardson, Sydney, and three daughters, Mrs. W. Langdon, Te Pake, Mrs. Brian Malone, Te Awamutu. and Mrs. H. A. Seifert, PalmerSton North. One son, Allan, predeceased him.
