HERE AND THERE
Visit to Govepiment House. At the conclusion of their conference yesterday afternoon, Mrs. James Pow, Dominion president, and hbout 150 members of the New Zealand Union of Townswomen's Guilds (Inc.), many of them delegates from other parts of the Dominion, visited Government House, their Excellencies " the Governor-General and: Lady Galway haying invited them to inspect the gardens. Lady Galway is patroness of this women's organisation and she and his Excellency met the visitors and conducted them round the grounds.
Christmas Party Announced,
On Thursday afternoon the Karori branch of the Federation of Townswomen's Guild held its last meeting for the year. The president, Mrs. L. G. Bruce, announced that it had been decided to hold a Christmas party for members and friends instead of a December meeting. The various circle leaders made their reports on progress and previous, work, and the choir gave an item to illustrate the excellent work put into the musical circle. Two members of the drama circle read a short sketch, after which afternoon tea was served. Miss Maddever judged the bedside posies made by the members of the garden circle, and then continued the address on her travels abroad, which she began at the last meeting and which everyone so much enjoyed that she consented to give a further and more detailed account.
Miss Patricia Gwynn, Mrs. Tanner, Mr. Lindsay Arlow. Mr. C. V. Adams, Mrs. O. E. Blamires, Miss Cora Duncan, Mr. and Mrs. T. Coleridge, Miss Ruth Singleton, Misses Shirley and Clemency King. Mr. David Good, Mrs. Harcourt, Mr. Eric de Mauny, Mrs. C. H. Brown, Miss Margaret Freeman, and Miss Lola Benge. Those who sold programmes were Misses Jean Gilmer, Jan Sloman, Judith Pasley. Margaret Arlow, Helen Bretherton, Eleanor Page, Judy Allen, Patricia Gledhill, Valeric Hickie, Sylvia Parr, and Jan Kelly. Mr. W. P. Pringle was house manager.

Hostesses at pre-wedding parties were Mrs. George Dick, Mrs. R. Caughley, and Misses Betty Bird, Joyce Thomas, Barbara Tomlinson, Joan Rawson, Nancy and Ruth Dixon, and Therle Oswin. ..
