trainers without getting far beyond the maiden classes, but he is being given a further chance, this time under C. S. Donald. For a long time he was one of the best track workers at Addington, but he proved too highly strung to produce his best on race days'. It is possible that constant work among members of Donald's big team will bring about an improvement in this speedy but erratic pacer's manners. Following the recent Forbury Park Meeting, Southern Smile was returned to her owner, and she will probably be given a useful spell before she is again put back in work. This useful mare was mated with Logan Derby some time ago without results, but there is the possibility that she will be relegated to the matron's paddock at an early date. / By Adioo Guy from Regina Logan, she has much to recommend her as a brood mare. A LIKELY YOUNGSTER. Sir Julian, the Jack Potts —Olive Turmoil colt, has grown into a commanding type of two-year-old, and .although he still gives the impression 'that he carries too much size for an early classic winner, there is no doubt that he has both quality and ability. He was recently second over a mile and a half at Amberley in 3min 30sec —good time for the track—and he gives every indication of making further improvement before the New Zealand

The second day of the recent Forbury Park Meeting saw Ginger Jack return to the winning list, and nis three displays at that fixture indicated that he is not only at the top of his form, but that his barrier manners have taken a decided turn for the better. He is one of the best pacers in his class racing at the moment, and providing that he continues to behaves away from tie barrier he will not be long in reaching the tightest limits. Van Derby's Forbury Park displays gave his supporters hope that this speed merchant will yet regain the reputation he enjoyed prior to Addington Easter carnival. Although lie failed to finish in the money in either of his outings, he was responsible for two bold showings. On the first day he made a slight skip soon after the start, but he paced solidly once he regained his gait, while the second day saw him improve further by going away smartly and pacing truly throughout. On each occasion he was set to give starts ranging up to 108 yards, and it was not surprising that he cbuld do no better than finish fourth, although, registering exceptionally fast time. No doubt he was helped by the fact that he occupied a mark on his own and that he was opposed by small fields, but the racing should help to give him confidence and bring him to * more forward for his coming engagements.
