OBITUARY
MRS. SARAH COX. The death occurred on Friday ot Mrs. Sarah Shephard Cox, of Christchurch. at the age of 98 years, states the "Press." She was the last surviving member of the family of Bishop Harper, D.D., first Bishop of Christchurch and second Primate of New Zealand, who died in Christchurch on December 28, 1893. Born at Eton, Mrs. Cox, with her parents, arrived at Lyttelton on Christmas Eve, 1856. and walked over the Bridle Path to Christchurch. In 1860 Miss Sarah Harper was mar-1 ried to Mr. Charles Percy Cox, who, seven years earlier, had arrived in Christchurch from England in the ship North Fleet, and who, with Mr. J. E. FitzGerald, one-time editor of the "Press" and Auditor-General of New Zealand, had taken up the Springs Station near Lincoln and Longbeach Station near Ashburton. The partners later sold these properties and bought Mount Somers Station. Mi FitzGerald sold his share to Mr. Cox, who farmed i the property very successfully for 15 years. In 1877 Mr and Mrs. Cox and family moved to Christchurch, where j Mr. C< died 13 years ago. I Mrs Cox was an enthusiastic gardener and a devout member of the Church, for which she worked earnestly. She was devoted to her home and her family and was greatly beloved by many friends and highly esteemed and revered by her fellowcitizens. She is survived by seven of her children—Messrs C. Mrs F H Fish, and Miss W Cox (all of Christchurch) There are 24 grandchildren and. 35 great-grandchildren
