AT KARORI PARK
A W.C.A.' eleven outplayed a Mercantile League team at Karori Pa^f* j the league batsmen finding the bowl- ■. ing by Knowsley. Stephenson, and, Browne not only difficult but often puzzling. Browne in particular had i a field day. and exploiting his spin bowling to the full, completely baffled the batsmen in gathering eight wickets for a cost of only 35 runs. At one stage he had three wickets from four deliveries. Sandholrn and Willis bowled well for the League team, Willis securing his wickets with successive balls. Batting for the League Shillson dis- j tinguished himself in their first innings ] by scoring practically half of the runs, and it was his stubborn display that j saved a complete rout. In the second innings the Mercantile League fared disastrously until Wiren and Swam became associated in a stand that added 30 runs in thirty more valuable minutes and saved a likely innings defeat. For the Association eleven Harpur contributed a carefree and enterprising display and with McMillan was associ-i ated.ip an unfinished half-century partnership. Details: — MERCANTILE LEAGUE.
