ENJOYABLE AFTERNOON

A most enjoyable afternoon was spent yesterday by more than 60 members of the V.M.C.A. Ladies' Auxiliary when they were the guests of the president, Mrs. R. S. Maunder, at her home in Roseneath. The reception-rooms were charmingly decorated with bowls of delphinium and poppies, and the glorious views from the windows of sun-flecked sea and hills were greatly admired. The guests were received by Mrs. Maunder and her assisting hostesses, Mesdames L. Millar, R. P. Staples, and A. E. W. Lythberg.

Songs were sung by Mrs. A. Downer, accompanied by Miss Nancy Martin, who also gave several piano solos, and Mrs. Geo. Castle contributed elocutionary items. Mr. S. V. C. Jones gave a most interesting talk on her experiences in various parts of Europe, America, Honolulu, and Australia. Afternoon tea was served, and thanks were expressed to Mrs. Maunder and her helpers for such a pleasant afternoon, as a result of which the auxiliary funds will considerably benefit.

A white cloth can be cleaned by using ground rice. It should be put on with a piece of clean white flannel and left for two or three hours. Then brush well and, shake.
