A CLOSE GAME
Despite the slippery ground, which made quick footwork very difficult, the game between Institute Old Boys and Diamond, at Kelburn, was bright and interesting. Both teams played well, and fortunes changed rapidly as play switched from end to end of the field. Intermittent rain, however, rather spoiled things from the point of view of ihe spectators. The teams were:—
Institute Old Boys.—King; Hicks, A. McLean; R. McLean, Boyes, Hurcombe; Kirkwood, Sutherland, Reid, McNaughton, Tanner. Diamond.—McLean; Knowsley, Hopper; O'Leaxy, Morris, Nichol; Geddes, Baker, Davison, Tucker, Hooker. Institute attacked from the start with a bright movement down the left wing. Tanner then came in at top speed and found the net with a long, low drive. Institute X, Diamond 0. A period of up-and-down play followed, in which both sides had anxious moments. Diamond had slightly the better of the exchanges, if anything, but the Institute defence was very safe. Aided slightly by the crosswind, the Diamond backs kept play on the right side.
