MARIST ECLIPSE SEATOUN
After a goal scored in the first minute or so against Seatoun on the No. 1 ground at the Basin Reserve, Marist were called upon to do some solid de-1 fending, but held to the lead until the spell and gave Seatoun several frights in doing so. The second half went all Marist's way, and Seatoun were beaten, 3-0. The teams were:— Marist.—Turkington; Laracy, Duffy; Hindle, Foley, Traynor; Eager, Kershaw, K. Quirke, M. Quirke, Leonard. Seatoun.—Parton; D. Gibson, K. Yeoman; 3' Gibson,-. .Scott, C. Yeoman; Gestro,'-D. Gendall, Croft, McKenzie, I.'Gendalh—.■■■:•;--' /. •■-.■:.»- Seatoun'"opened the'first.attack, but Marist's, tori^k.- retaliation' resulted in a forward press in the seasiders' goal-' mouth. • Parton went to take a halfhearted shot, but could not grasp the rolling ball, and Leonard, in from the left wing, drove through. Marist 1, Seatoun 0. McKenzie, who had 'good understanding with his halves, was prominent in subsequent Seatoun attacks, and the backs for Marist, particularly Laracy, did stout work in keeping the ball clear. M. Quirke, R. Quirke, and Kershaw turned on pretty; short-passing football when Marist broke away, but Parton .rose to the occasion and saved brilliantly a rising shot from Kershaw, which he punched clear. Seatoun probably, had the better of territorial play in the first half, but potential scoring moves were fairly evenly divided. Half-time score: Marist 1, Seatoun 0. Marist clapped on the pressure at the beginning of the second spell, but Seatoun, after having a lucky escape when Marist spurned a certainty, forced back and put Turkington on his mettle. Marist cleared, but poor shooting again ruined the attack. An excellent corner by Leonard was nearly capitalised, and in the next rush Kershaw, receiving from the left, scored, with Parton out of position. Marist 2, Seatoun 0. Seatoun, except for two or three dangerous breakaways, remained on the defensive. With about ten minutes to go Leonard crossed from the left and! Eager shot through the gap and beat the 'keeper. Despite Seatoun's counters the game ended: Marist 3, Seatoun 0. The referee was Mr. S. G. Bradford.
