REGIMENTAL BALL
OUTSTANDING DECORATIONS
The balls of the Ist Battalion of the Wellington Regiment have always been outstanding social events, but that which took place in St. Francis Hall last evening eclipsed those of previous" years, -and was the brightest, and .most successful."*'
"Distinctive decorations1 of red, white, and blue, were chosen for the occasion. The whole of the ceiling was artistically obscured by red, white, and blue streamers, and bunting was draped around the walls and in the balcony. The Orchestral dais was massed with beautiful hydrangeas. The Regimental orchestra supplied the music, and supper was served on long tables attractively arranged with gold and black streamers, Iceland poppies, and red berries.
Many charming frocks were noticed among :the dancers, vivid and softly subdued colours showing to great advantage in the attractive surroundings, while the many uniforms and decorations added further touches of interest. Outstanding features of the evening were a grand march led by four pipers and a drummer of the Regimental Pipe Band; demonstrations of the sword dance and Highland reels by Miss J. O'Connor, Miss G. McKay, Mr. W. Mcßae, and Mr. C. Stewart, (kindly arranged by Mr. Macßae);and 'a spirited tap dance by Miss Marjorie Vause.
The host afld. hostess for the evening were Major and Mrs. E. M. Stace, the latter wearing a trained gown of midnight blue velvet. Mn GiffordMoore and Mrs. D. Burns were the winners of the Monte Carlo competition.
The success of the dance was due to the energetic committee which comprised Captain F. LI McKenzie, Captain E. T. W. Lowe, Second Lieutenant J. E. Duff, Lance-Corporal N. Carter, Lance-Corporal K. Frascr, Staff-Ser-geant E. Berry, Sergeant J. H. Danderson (secretary), assisted by Major and Mrs. Ross (the latter wearing hydrangea blue cloak), Captain and Mrs. Fussell (the latter wearing parchment lace), Captain and Mrs. E. T. Love (the latter wearingl bottle green and gold), Captain Wells, and Warrant Officer and Mrs. L. Baker (the latter wearing green lace over satin).

Vases of tri-coloiired poppies were set on the flag-covered cabaret tables, where even the sweets dishes were in patriotic colours,.
"Follow the Colours," a new version of the Monte Carlo dance, was won by Miss Davis and Mr. Moss, and everal other novelties, specially one called "Three Live/Ghosts," and several amusing "novelty dances being particularly entertaining. '•''
Mr. E. Loader arid Mrs. Loader were host and hostess for the dance, which was"a; "president's evening," the hostess wearing a frock of maize floral satin, with a silver 'satin coat. Mr. Loader was presented with a birthday cake to mark the occasion' of his birthday. .
Supper,' which' was; served upstairs, was set in a gaily-decorated room, which carried".out-the'.general motif of patriotic colours: , Items were given by Mr/Seatbn, who sang tenor solos, Mr. W:W. Marshall, who gave bass solos, and a. ballet troupe performed a. novelty number, and 'these performers were afterwards presented with suitable mementoes.
Mrs. Loader was congratulated by all present for her work in making gay little "sailor" caps, which all the dancers wore perched on the side of their heads, and also for making the bouquets of sweets which were distributed during the evening.
