KING'S BIRTHDAY DANCE

"PRESIDENT'S EVENING"

The Athenian Club held another of its very ,populai dances at the Pharmacy Hall last night, the occasion being the. King's Birthday.

The rainbow hues of the women's dresses stood out effectively ag:.inst a background of lycopodium which screened the walls, and through which dainty lights twinkled, giving a fairylike effect. Streamers of red, white,; and blue canopied the ceiling, these being pierced to release showers of■ gaily-coloured balloons. . "Lifebuoys" in honour of our "Sailor King" were carried out in red, white, and blue, and were hung round the walls. These, alternated with gold tablets of ■ the Royal Family, contrasted , with the green background. An image of. a large lion "juggling with the world," pranced proudly at the front of the stage, from where an energetic orchestra played. .
