Manx Society. The usual monthly dance social of the Manx Society was held in the Rechabite Hall, Willis Street, when the hall-was. filled to its capacity. An excellent .programmewas provided, and all1, items "Were enthusiastically received.,;;:;!:* Contributions to the programme weretas follows: —Solos, Mesdames Halvers^ffia'nd Miller, and Miss Roberts; elocutionary items,-Mr. Williams; dance iteinisj,'tMiss, Margaret' Oates' and "the Misses'; G. arid P. Scorringe, L. Coddle, M. Scbt't,'Dl^tkin, D. McGinnity, and J. Galiaher. The accompanists for the vocal items were Mesdames London'and Luke and Miss \D. Spinks, and Miss Margaret Oates accompanied the dance itsms. Games and general1 dances were interspersed' between1, the various items. Mr. S. -Clarke prpved an efficient M.C., and Mr. D. Clarke provided good music at the,piano for. the general dances. The president (Mr. J. J. Watterson) expressedv. the : grateful thanks of the committee for,the enjoyable contributions given during the evening. Supper was provided by the ladies of the committee, and thereafter dancing was indulged in, until a late hour. ■,-..", ' Jumble SaleV .' • The Ladies' Guild.jDf the British Sailors'. Society will'hold a jumble sale at their rooms, 47 Cuba- Street, tomorrow from 2.30 to 8 pirn.,: when there will be a good assortment of men's, women's, and children's clothing on sale. Xursing Guild. Mrs. Osborn presided over a meeting of the' District Nursing Guild. As usual with .the coming.of the colder weather the nurses are finding themselves very busy.' The distribution of coal is beginning this month and they also have had some splendid parcels of clothing to give to their needy patients. ... Thank are given to the fol-lowing-generous donors for gifts in. kind:—Garment Society, Mrs. L. B. Campbell,' Miss Benbow, Busy Bee Club, Smith Family, Khandallah Sick Poor Guild, C. Smith, Ltd., Mr. E. J Hunt, Mrs. W. Mantell, Mrs. Laing. Monetary donations were received from M.H.V Mr. H. E; Tame, the Dominion Motors, Ltd. (per Sir Charles Norwood), Anonymous, and E.W. The main event for the month was the buying ofasmall car for . the nurses' use. 'Without the help'of the transport auxiliary it would have been impossible to carry on the work without a car: IA donation. of £200 from the Lord Nuffleld Trust Fund made this purchase possible, and Sir Charles Norwood with a generous gesture helped the! matter on.. The car will be invaluable to.the nurses. Social Progress. The committee of the Central Group of the Women's Social Progress movement gave an enjoyable''morning tea party at the .National Club yesterday, for 'Mrs. Alexander Gillies, who recently returned from a visit to Canada and America. Mrs. Bennie (president) welcomed Mrs. Gillies, who gave an interesting informal talk about her trip. Members of the committee present were Mesdames T. B. Strong, M. Murray, A. Duncan, P. Anderson, R.
