OBITUARY

MRS. I. FINLAYSON.

An old and. highly-respected resident of Masterton passed away recently in the person of Mrs. Isabella Fin.layson, widow of the late Mr. Donald Finlayson, of Hessey Street. She was in her 90th year, and was born in Dingwall, Scotland. The late Mr. and Mrs. Finlayson came to New Zealand in the sailing ship Hudson, in 1879. Mrs. Finlayson took a great interest in the work of the Presbyterian Church in Masterton and was a constant and ardent worker in the Dorcas Society. Many will remember her for her cheerful nature, her kindly ways, and her large-heartedness where sickness and trouble were concerned. She always retained her interest in her native land and had many friends among the Scottish settlers in New Zealand or their descendants. Mrs. Finlayson leaves a family of three sons (Messrs Roderick, James, and Donald Finlayson), and one daughter (Mrs. J. Betty). There are eleven grandchildren and five great-grand-children. The death occurred last Friday at her residence, "Nithsdale," Greymouth, of Miss Helen Kerr. The late Miss Kerr, who was the eldest daughter of the late Hon. and Mrs. James Kerr, was a native of Dunedin, but.had spent practically the whole of her life in Greymouth. Of late years she had been an invalid, but in her younger days she took a keen interest in social work and was a worker for the Presbyterian Church. Mr. James Kerr, of Petone, and Mr. William Kerr, of Lower Hutt, are brothers. Miss Kate Kerr, Greymouth, Mrs. John McKenzie, Covvper Street, Greymouth, Mrs. Craig, Rotokohu, Mrs. Yeats, Christchurch, and Mrs. Milne, Auckland, are sisters.- The late Mrs. H. B. Burnett, Auckland, was also a sister.
