WOMEN'S RESPONSE

PROVISION OF REFRESHMENT

The women in the city are responding in a most praiseworthy manner to the request of the Mayor to staff the several stalls at vantage points through1-• out the city and suburbs on Flag Day, when it is hoped that upwards' of 40,000 flags will be sold. Willing helpers usually associated with the Poppy Day and Kose Day appeals, girls from the Public Service, from the City Council, and from social and other organisations are offering their seryices voluntarily on this occasion. The Mayor, feels: that proper provision must be made for morning and afternoon tea and a midday meal for the women who are hesitant to accept the refreshment if the cost is to be met from till: Flag Day proceeds. An appreciative gesture to overcome this difficulty has been made by the Public Service Refreshment Rooms Committee, which offers to throughout the day free refreshments at the Government Buldings Refreshment Booms to all helpers in the vicinity of Government Buildings wearing official badges. Tea-room proprietors, hotelkeepers, etc., will, it is felt, follow this lead even to the extent, if possible, of sending the refreshments to the stalls, as there are still insufficient numbers to provide relief. \

Business people in the city who have facilities , for supplying refreshments to the women whose services are being given voluntarily will thus be making a contribution' to the King George V Memorial Appeal, and they are asked to convey any proposals that they may have to Mr. J. Spence, secretary of the Wellington Returned Soldiers' Association. A list of the street stalls and their location will be published as soon as the arrangements are completed.
