During the weekend a shallow.low pressure area1 remained almost stationary over fthe : Dominion. Although; southerlies- at various-times extended1 as far, north in ,the South Island as ;Kaikoura,, the ,"southerly invasion was but fitful, . and northeasterlies prevailed'from Nelson and Marlborough northward ..and these extended at ,: intervals much further southward.- The weather,'.'although: beautifully ; fine in the middle pro-: vinces, was not so favourable elsewhere, especially in the southern half of the South Island. Some rain" of a scattered nature,has been reported from many districts, ■■ . and in ■ a few places there" have been., some lieavy falls, Greymouth, for instance, reporting a fair of 148 points;::and:Queenstown one of 80 points. Auckland's weather, although cloudy at times, has been fine and warm with a light to moderate wind • from ■ between south-east and north-east.
Wellington has had delightfully fine weather, with summer temperatures and with scarcely any wind. ' It was overcast on Saturday, however,, only 0.8 hours of bright sunshine being recorded. But Sundaymade amends with 10.3 hours, the weather both yesterday and this morning being clear. A summer temperature, of 72.5 degrees was the maximum recorded ,at Kelburn yesterday. ,„■■ : , .Christchurch had a light drizzle on Saturday, and since then it has: been mostly overcast with much low: cloud and at times mist. A light southwesterly was blowing there on Sunday morning, but otherwise the wind has been a light to. moderate ~ north-, easterly. " ■ : • • : . Dunedin had a fresh southerly wind on Saturday and some • misty rain. Intermittent rain again fell yesterday, the wind haying turned to the northeast. It was calm and foggy there this, morning and light rain was falling.
